Staffing

Each nursery is managed by a qualified supernumerary manager, assisted by a deputy manager at our larger nurseries. In addition, an experienced area manager oversees the three nurseries, visiting several times a week to help maintain high standards and to give guidance and advice. Practical support and planning for "Birth to Three Matters" and "Foundation Stage" is also provided by our full time Education and Planning Manager, a qualified early years teacher.

Our staff to child ratios are strictly in accordance with OFSTED guidelines, meeting and exceeding OFSTED requirements for qualifications. In addition to their qualifications and experience, staff are chosen for their temperament, personality and love of children. They encourage children to take part in activities and are positive about children’s achievements. They ensure children treat others with the same courtesy, consideration and respect that they receive from the staff.

We aim for all staff to have First Aid training, which is updated every three years. We hold ‘in-house’ training sessions led by senior staff or outside trainers, and staff regularly attend training courses outside the nursery. We have some staff who are currently undertaking further childcare qualifications. At each nursery we have nominated SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) and Equal Opportunities representatives.

Young Sussex provides a professional and supportive environment for staff, which contributes to a low staff turnover. This allows us to maintain consistently high standards of care and continuity for your children.

Our full time caretaker ensures that all our sites are kept clean and tidy, and are well maintained and cared for.
